THIS PRIVACY STATEMENT DESCRIBES HOW WE COLLECT, USE AND SHARE YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION
When you engage us for financial planning, advice, or the placement and administration of products, you entrust us with your personal information. This Privacy Statement explains how we collect, use, share, and protect your personal information, and that of your spouse, dependants and beneficiaries, where applicable, in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA).

1. Who we are
âWeâ, âusâ, âourâ or âEverydayâ refers to Everyday Wealth Proprietary Limited. Registration No. 2021/703245/07. Directors: Saul Shain and Daniel Fisher. Everyday is a juristic representative of Discovery Life Limited, an authorised financial services provider, FSP 18147. You can find us at 1 Discovery Place, Sandton, Johannesburg, 2196.
As a Discovery Financial Practice, we place and help intermediate products underwritten and administered by companies within the Discovery Group. Where this happens, Discovery processes your personal information in terms of its own privacy statement, available at https://www.discovery.co.za/corporate/privacy/. This Privacy Statement covers how we, as the financial planning practice, collect and use your personal information.
2. What personal information we collect and from where
We collect personal information directly from you wherever possible, primarily during needs-analysis, financial planning and advice, and product application processes. Some of the personal information we collect may be sensitive in nature (special personal information), such as health information relevant to underwriting. Below are the categories of personal information we may collect.
Biographic and demographic information
Types of personal information: Full name, ID/passport number, date of birth, marital status, dependants and beneficiariesâ details.
Source: From you directly, or your employer, when you engage us for financial planning or advice.
Contact information
Types of personal information: Physical and postal address, cell phone number, email address.
Source: From you, or from Discovery / other product providers where you hold a linked product.
Financial information
Types of personal information: Income, assets, liabilities, financial goals, risk profile, bank account details, tax information.
Source: From you, during needs-analysis and financial planning engagements.
Product and policy information
Types of personal information: Details of policies, investments, and products held with Discovery or other providers, premiums, contributions, claims history.
Source: From you, and from Discovery and other product providers whose products we place or administer on your behalf.
Special personal information (health)
Types of personal information: Health information relevant to underwriting or claims on risk or health products, where applicable.
Source: From you, and from Discovery or other insurers/medical schemes, with your consent, where required for underwriting or claims support.
Credit information
Types of personal information: Credit history and credit score, where relevant to affordability assessments.
Source: From credit bureaus and other consumer data verification bureaus.
Communications and preferences
Types of personal information: Records of meetings, calls, emails, and your marketing preferences.
Source: From you, through our interactions with you.
Most of the personal information we collect is necessary for us to provide you with financial advice and to place products on your behalf. If you do not provide the information we need, we may not be able to provide you with advice or services.
3. How we will use your personal information
We use your personal information and special personal information to:
- Conduct a needs analysis and provide you with financial advice, relating to Insurance, Investments, Life Cover, Banking, Vitality, Medical Aid and Gap Cover and Estate planning.
- Assess your affordability, risk profile and financial needs.
- Prepare, submit and process applications for products with Discovery or other product providers.
- Intermediate and service your products, including assisting with premium collection, claims, and policy changes.
- Communicate with you about your financial plan, products, and any changes affecting you.
- Comply with our legal and regulatory obligations, including FICA, FAIS, and anti-money laundering requirements.
- Resolve queries or complaints.
- Improve our services to you.
4. Who we share your personal information with
We may share your personal information with:
- Companies within the Discovery Group, for the purposes of underwriting, administering, and servicing products you hold or apply for.
- Other product providers or insurers, where we place products with them on your behalf.
- Credit bureaus and consumer data verification bureaus, for affordability and identity verification purposes.
- Regulatory bodies, such as the Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA), where we have a legal or regulatory duty to do so.
- Our compliance officer, auditors, and professional advisers, where necessary.
In all other instances, we will ask for your consent before sharing your personal information, unless we are permitted or required to do so by law.
5. How long we keep your personal information for
We keep your personal information for as long as necessary to provide you with our services, and thereafter for as long as required by applicable laws, including FAIS record-keeping requirements, or for legitimate business purposes. Where you withdraw your consent and the law does not require us to retain the information, we will destroy, delete, or anonymise it.
6. How we protect your personal information
We have put reasonable technical and organisational security measures in place, appropriate to the sensitivity of the information we hold, to protect your personal information against loss, unauthorised access, and misuse. No method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is completely secure, and while we take reasonable steps to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security.
7. Transferring your personal information outside South Africa
We may transfer your personal information outside South Africa where, for example, we communicate with you via an email or platform hosted outside South Africa, use cloud or IT service providers based outside South Africa, or where a product provider (such as Discovery) processes your information outside South Africa as part of administering your product. We will take reasonable steps to ensure any party we share your information with outside South Africa protects it to the same standard we are required to.
8. Keeping you informed
We may contact you from time to time about products, services, or offers that we believe may be relevant to your financial needs. You may unsubscribe from marketing communications at any time by contacting us directly (see section 11). This does not affect communications relating to your existing policy or product, such as changes to contributions or benefits.
9. You have rights
You have the right to:
- Ask what personal information we hold about you.
- Ask us to correct or update any inaccurate or outdated personal information.
- Ask us to delete personal information we are no longer authorised to retain.
- Object to the processing of your personal information.
- Withdraw any consent you have given for processing your personal information.
- Lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator if you believe your personal information has been processed unlawfully.
Please note that exercising certain rights, such as deletion, objection, or withdrawal of consent, may affect our ability to provide you with financial planning services or advice.
